We start pitching this week. Our first module for Filmmaking Level One Certification and not for the faint hearted. With time, one take and structural conditions in place, pitching is the first hurdle Film Academy students need to clear before moving on to the more creative phase, engaging with the charity, writing table and pre-production.
Film Academy crews will be mixed up into 3 or 4 groups, each presented with a charity that Ciné Schools is in contact with. Their task will be to turn the top-line information they have into a pitch that sets out: what the problem is, how the charity tackles the problem and why it’s so important that their idea should become this term’s charity campaign film. With only 20 minutes of prep time and mixed year groups, they will need to work as a team and decide who will say what. We actively encourage every child to contribute to the group and say something to camera. This can be tough, but ignites the beginning of their journey as a cohesive crew.
They’ll have 60 seconds to pitch their charity and convince their parents, their friends and faculty that their charity is the one the whole crew should come together to make a film for. Good Luck all!
